A FRAMEWORK FOR CHAOS THEORY CAREER COUNSELLING In the past (for example, Warnath, 1975) career development theory was criticised for being too far removed from what counsellors actually did with their clients. In the last 15 to 20 years determined efforts have been made by proponents of theories of career development to ground their concepts in ways that can be directly translated into counselling experience (for example, Sharf, 2005). For the chaos theory of careers (Pryor & Bright, 2007a) attempts have been made throughout its development to combine theory, research and counselling together to provide ongoing feedback to each other (Pryor & Bright, 2007b).
